What Exactly Is Artificial Grass?
Modern artificial grass bears little resemblance to the synthetic pitches of decades past. Today’s products use polyethylene fibres that genuinely mimic the texture and appearance of natural grass, complete with colour variation and a realistic thatch layer that provides cushioning underfoot. The materials are engineered to resist UV damage, which matters considerably given how quickly cheaper alternatives fade and become brittle.
We source our grass from established manufacturers who test their products rigorously. This isn’t about finding the cheapest option available; it’s about selecting materials that perform properly over their fifteen-year lifespan and don’t become an eyesore after a couple of summers.
Why Homeowners Choose Synthetic Lawns
Minimal Upkeep
No mowing. No watering. No fertilising or weed treatments. The occasional brush and rinse is genuinely all that’s required. For anyone who’s spent Sunday afternoons wrestling with a temperamental lawnmower, the appeal is obvious.
Year-Round Usability
Natural grass turns to mud when it rains heavily. It browns off during dry spells. It becomes patchy in shaded areas and wears thin where children play regularly. Artificial grass sidesteps all of these problems. The surface drains efficiently, stays green regardless of conditions, and handles heavy foot traffic without complaint.
Suitable for Families and Pets
Dogs dig. They run circuits around the garden that create worn tracks. They bring mud through the house on their paws. Pet owners consistently tell us that switching to artificial grass has made a genuine difference to their daily routine. The surface is safe, non-toxic, and considerably easier to clean than natural turf.
What We Offer
From complete garden installations to problem area solutions, Stanley Paving delivers durable and attractive artificial grass tailored to your home.
Complete Garden Installations
Full removal of existing turf, preparation of the sub-base, and installation of your chosen artificial grass. We handle the entire process from initial survey through to final brushing.
Partial Lawn Replacements
Perhaps you want to retain flower beds or a patio area whilst converting the main lawn. We can work around existing features to create a practical, mixed-use garden.
Problem Area Solutions
Shaded spots where grass refuses to grow properly. Areas beneath trampolines. Dog runs. These challenging spaces often benefit most from artificial grass, and we can advise on the best approach for your specific situation.
Repairs and Maintenance
Existing artificial lawn looking tired or damaged? We can replace worn sections, address drainage issues, and restore the appearance of older installations.
How We Install Your Lawn
The finished result depends entirely on what happens beneath the surface. Skimp on preparation and you’ll end up with drainage problems, uneven surfaces, and weeds pushing through within months. Our process addresses each of these potential issues systematically.
We begin with a site visit to assess ground conditions, discuss your requirements, and take accurate measurements. This allows us to provide a detailed quotation without any guesswork or unwelcome surprises once work begins.
Existing vegetation is removed along with the topsoil layer, typically to a depth of around 75mm. A heavy-duty weed membrane goes down first, followed by MOT Type 1 aggregate which is compacted thoroughly to create a stable, free-draining base. Sharp sand provides the final levelling layer, screeded to create a smooth surface ready for the grass itself.
The artificial grass is rolled out, trimmed precisely around edges and obstacles, and any seams are joined using specialist tape and adhesive. Galvanised pins secure the perimeter. Finally, kiln-dried sand is brushed into the pile to help fibres stand upright and add stability to the finished lawn.

How long will the grass last?
Quality artificial grass typically lasts between ten and fifteen years with normal domestic use. Factors affecting longevity include the grade of product installed, quality of the sub-base preparation, and whether basic maintenance is carried out. We use premium-grade materials designed for the British climate.
Can you work on sloped or uneven ground?
Yes. Sloped gardens require some additional consideration for drainage, but they’re entirely workable. Severely uneven sites may need more extensive groundwork before installation can proceed. We’ll assess this during the initial survey and include any necessary preparation in your quotation.
Is artificial grass genuinely safe for children and pets?
The products we install are non-toxic and tested for safety. Modern EU regulations prohibit the use of harmful microplastics and chemicals in artificial grass manufacturing, so products sourced from reputable European manufacturers meet strict safety standards.
What maintenance is actually required?
Very little. Remove leaves and debris with a stiff brush or leaf blower. Rinse the surface occasionally, particularly if you have pets. In heavily shaded areas, moss can sometimes appear and should be treated if noticed. That’s genuinely the extent of it.
Do you provide written quotations?
Every quotation we provide is detailed in writing, breaking down materials, labour, and any preparation work required. There’s no obligation and no pressure. Take your time to consider your options.
